A broken wheel bearing usually becomes apparent by means of a dissonant sound when you are driving straight ahead, or a dissonant sound that fades or changes when you turn the car. If you find that this is the case when you're driving your Volvo then you can be almost certain that it is due to a broken wheel bearing. Another way in which to determine if the wheel bearing needs replacing is to have the car lifted up and then check if anything is loose. Grab the wheel at the top and at the bottom and see if it can be wiggled vertically.
