Jarrusatulan vaihdon tarpeellisuutta ennakoi se, kun auto vetää sivuun jarrutettaessa tai kun jarrupalat kuluvat toisessa pyörässä enemmän kuin toisessa.
Jos jarrusatulan mäntä ei pyöri niin kuin sen pitäisi, se voi heikentää jarrutustehoa ja saada Volvosi vetämään sivuttain jarrutettaessa. Jos jarrusatulassa oleva mäntä juuttuu ulompaan aktiiviseen asentoon sen sijaan että se liukuisi takaisin jarrutuksen jälkeen, aiheuttaa se jarrupalojen ylimääräistä kulumista ja joskus seurauksena on myös jarrulevyjen vääntyminen.
Vinkki on vaihtaa myös jarruletku jarrusatulan vaihdon yhteydessä. Oikea jarruletku malleihin Volvo 140, 240, 740, 940, 850, S70, V70, C70, C30, S40, S60, S80, V40, V60, V90, XC60, XC70, XC90 on saatavana lisävarusteena jarrusatulaan.
