Changing the rear springs on a Volvo can be a challenging task, but with the right tools and techniques, it is possible to do it yourself. The springs are an important part of the car's suspension system and may need to be replaced if they are worn. In this article I will go through the steps to change the rear springs on a Volvo.

If you want better driving experience, comfort and safety with your Volvo, it is important to replace the rear springs when they become worn or damaged. The rear springs absorb shocks and vibrations from the road and keep the car stable and balanced. When the rear springs lose their elasticity or break off, it can lead to problems such as:

  • Worse road holding and braking ability
  • Increased fuel consumption and tire wear
  • Low rear and risk of hitting the ground
  • Noise and knocks from the chassis
  • Uncomfortable driving experience for you and your passengers

How to change rear springs on Volvo

Step 1

Hoist the car and remove the wheel.

Step 2

Make a mark on the upper spring seat seat, so they end up the same when you put it back.

Step 3

Use a spring compressor to compress the spring and then remove it.

Step 4

Remove the upper and lower spring seats. Check for damage, if there is, replace the part with a new one. Before putting the new spring back in, clean the surfaces where the spring will be located.

Step 5

Take out the new spring. Check the marking on the spring which way it should sit, then put the spring back in the upper spring seat.

Step 6

Use the spring compressor again to get the spring back on the car (make sure the spring goes right into the spring compressor).

Step 7

Check that the spring has ended up in the marking as you did in step 2.
