In this guide, we change the rear wheel hub of the type unit bearing, Hub Unit. This means that the wheel hub comes in a complete part with seals. Hub unit wheel bearings are greased from the factory and are very easy to replace yourself as neither press tools nor additional wheel bearing grease are needed. This guide is for V70 08-16, S60, V60 10-17, S80 06-16 rear with front wheel drive.

BRAKE SHIELDS FOR VOLVO

Brake pads are popular to replace in connection with the replacement of brake discs or wheel bearings.
Brake shields are not required to get approved at the inspection, but are something that many Volvo owners still want to change to keep the car's brake functions in the best condition.
HOW TO CHANGE WHEEL HUB AND BRAKE SHIELD ON VOLVO V70 08-16, S60, V60 10-17, S80 06-16
Step 1
Unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel
Step 2
Put the parking brake in service mode, the easiest way to do this with an iCarsoft:
Insert the key and hold, without depressing the brake pedal, until ignition mode 2 is activated
Step 3
Plug iCarsoft into the OBD2 socket. In the iCarsoft menu, select:
- Volvo
- Diagnosis - Brake
- Manual Select
- Which car model you have
- Wait for it to finish
Step 4
Switch off the ignition on the car
Step 5
Remove the brake caliper; Gently push back the caliper piston. On the back are two bolts that must be unscrewed to loosen the entire caliper and holder
Step 6
Hang the caliper with a cable tie or something else next to it so that it does not fall down and damage the brake hose
Step 7
Remove the screw that holds the brake disc and remove the brake disc
Step 8
Unscrew the four bolts that sit from behind and hold the wheel hub in place. (Torx 55) (Tip! Clean the threads you see on the front before unscrewing them)
Step 9
Remove the old wheel hub and brake shield, loosen the connector to the ABS sensor. You may need to hit gently with a hammer to loosen the wheel hub
Step 10
Clean the surface that the brake shield will be against
Step 11
Then apply copper paste.
Step 12
Remove the ABS sensor from the old wheel hub to move to the new one. (NOTE: Do not use tools that are magnetic, as they may be demagnetized in the hub)
Step 13
Pick up the new wheel hub and mount the old ABS sensor there
Step 14
Hold the brake shield and wheel hub against the car
Step 15
Screw back the bolts so that the shield + bearing is secure. The bolts must be screwed on with 110 newton meter
Step 16
When the wheel hub is in place, the brake disc must be refitted. Start by cleaning the brake disc and place copper paste on the wheel hub

Screw back the brake disc
Step 18
Screw back the caliper. (Tip! Check the brake hose so that you have not spun the brake caliper

Replace the wheel
